Charming, Serene, Scenic, Historic, and Picturesque describes this Unique Property in Southern Granville County! For the past 184 years (since 1840 when our Nation was only 64 years young!), this property steeped in local history has witnessed and persevered many geographic and demographic changes and challenges. Located in Southern Granville County (several miles from Wilton), Grove Hill Church was considered the ''central location'' of the early Community. On this approximately 3 acre property, the original one-room church building was erected in 1840. A one- room school house (Grove Hill School) was added on the property several years later and remained in operation until the school at Wilton was built. Though the early church was unheated and difficult to reach by foot or horse and carriage, the community citizens were faithful and replaced the 1840 church with the current sanctuary in 1890. Local families welcomed the early Circuit Riders, travelled difficult terrain to worship, fellowship, and attend school. As a result of the strong faith and resolve of many of our ancestors, Grove Hill Church remained in continuous operation from 1840 to July, 2024. The 2979 sqft building is comprised of the sanctuary, two fellowship rooms, a full-sized kitchen, pantry, entry foyer, 3 bathrooms, and two closets. Along with many updates, beautiful stained glass windows were installed in the 43 x 27 sanctuary in 1968 allowing radiant colors of light to enter and accentuate the hardwood flooring, the vibrant red carpet and matching red cushioned pews, the stunning original 1890 altar, and the beautiful 12x10 chancel area. Lovely weddings have been held in the church sanctuary over the years and the sanctuary is stunning when decorated for Christmas and other seasons. The unique construction of the domed ceiling provides natural acoustics for those who do not wish to use a sound system. The chancel area includes matching wooden furniture (two chairs, pulpit, and altar table). Both an organ and piano are in the sanctuary. The larger fellowship room has an attached accordion style fold-out partition with a door that can be used to separate the room into smaller areas if needed. In addition to the two inside closets, there is more storage in an outside enclosed shed which is attached to the covered 34x20 picnic shelter for outdoor gatherings. Both the picnic shelter and storage shed are lighted. All roofing is recent. The sanctuary metal roof and the shingled picnic shelter roof were added after 2004. The shingle roofing over the fellowship area was replaced in 2021. LP gas pack HVAC. The total acreage is just over 3 acres with a cemetery where several WWI and WWII veterans are laid to rest including the recipient of the ''Distinguished Service Cross'' who fell on the last day of WWI while heroically serving his regiment in France.
